In November 2012, New West Theatre committed funds to start an endowment with the Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta. This investment in our future came from the support of individuals through attendance at our productions and donations over the last decade. In March 2013, the Canadian Heritage division of the Government of Canada matched our initial contribution by awarding us the Endowment Incentives Component grant, doubling our investment and affirming our commitment to sustainability.
As the New West Theatre Endowment Fund grows so will the return, thereby reducing the effects of fluxes in the economy on our programming, and making New West Theatre more financially sovereign.
Endowment Facts: The Gift that Keeps on Giving
Why donate to our endowment rather than to New West Theatre directly?Although New West Theatre will continue to encourage our supporters to donate to us directly in order to sustain annual operations, we recognize that certain patrons want to help ensure that professional live theatre will be here for years to come. By donating to our endowment, you help to create funding for future generations of theatre goers.
Can I help New West Theatre be sustainable forever? Am I able to have my donation matched?Yes! Anyone can donate to the New West Theatre Endowment Fund ensuring your contribution to New West Theatre goes directly towards our sustainability. And if you donate to our endowment, the Canadian Government will too!
Annually, New West Theatre will apply for the Endowment Incentives Component grant allowing us to receive up to 100% matching funds from Canadian Heritage for every donation made to the New West Theatre Endowment Fund.
If I donate to the endowment what happens to the money? The Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta will hold all donations in the New West Theatre Endowment Fund. The funds are professionally managed in a pooled investment fund that now totals over $15 million. The Community Foundation will ensure that the funds are kept forever, and the investment income will always support the operations of New West Theatre.
Am I able to donate other types of property such as publicly traded securites?Yes. The Community Foundation will handle everything involved in donating securities to the New West Theatre Endowment Fund.
Am I able to donate to the endowment through a bequest in my will?Yes. You may arrange for a bequest in your name to the New West Theatre Endowment Fund held at the Community Foundation.
