Every September, the New West Theatre office phone rings off the hook with parents asking if we feature theatre classes that run throughout the year. In response, we let them know about our popular theatre camps that engage and inspire young people each summer, but that we do not offer any programs during the rest of the year.

This fall, though, we are proud to announce the unveiling of the New West Theatre School!

Participants in the New West Theatre School will explore a range of vibrant activities that expand their theatrical skills and boost their self-confidence. At the end of the session, students perform in a presentation of their work for families and friends.

New West Theatre's highly experienced arts educators focus on fostering personal growth in a positive environment. The classes take place at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery and the final showcase takes place in the Sterndale Bennett Theatre, allowing young people to experience the magic of performing in a professional theatre setting.

Fall Session

Theatre Adventures | September 14 - December 7

Final Showcase December 7, 7 PM

Students will expand their knowledge of improv, movement, character creation and voice through a series of fun and exciting activities. Week by week, students will work together to create a special performance, which will be presented in the Sterndale Bennett Theatre on the final evening.

Time: Wednesdays 5:30 PM - 6:45 PM
Ages: 7 - 10
Fee: $160

Acting UP! | September 14 - December 7

Final Showcase December 7, 7 PM

Students will delve into the world of live performance as they explore techniques of acting. Week by week, students will work together to create a special performance, which will be presented in the Sterndale Bennett Theatre on the final evening.

Time: Wednesdays 7 PM - 8:30 PM
Ages: 11 - 14

Head Instructor

Jeremy Mason
New West Theatre, General Manager

Jeremy has been New West Theatre's General Manager since 2009. New West Theatre credits include Marooned with Munsch, Rumplestiltskin, Sitting on Paradise, Ned, What's Under Your Bed?, and Dear Santa. Jeremy is an actor, director, playwright and theatre educator who works across the province in schools, creating theatre and teaching youth. He also works extensively with the Empress Theatre in Fort Macleod and Calgary's Trickster Theatre.

A series of dynamic and experienced arts educators will visit each session to provide playful exercises and ideas.

Odds & Ends

- Fees include GST and service charges. Additional fees for phone/online orders may be charged by the Ticket Centre.
- Cancellation Policy: Cancellation is permitted (less a $50 administration fee) provided notice is given no less than 7 days prior to the first day of the session. No refund will be given with less than 7 days notice unless a doctor's note is provided.
- All classes take place at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery-TD Creativity Room, located at 601 3rd Ave South. The final showcase will take place at the Sterndale Bennett Theatre located in the Yates Centre at 1002-4th Ave South.
