New West Theatre Summer Theatre Camps 2009

New West Theatre’s dedication to enhancing arts experiences in southern Alberta extends beyond our eight seasonal productions – our popular Summer Theatre Camps provide dynamic artistic opportunities for young people.

For the third summer in a row, New West Theatre is offering weeklong theatre camps for students between the ages of 5 and 17. All classes are taught in the Sterndale Bennett Theatre, where students will learn the art of drama through the use of imaginative and playful exercises.

Each weeklong camp will introduce and reinforce fundamentals theatre skills, including imagination, teamwork, improvisation, movement and acting. Skills taught throughout the week will be integrated in the creation, rehearsal, and presentation of a completely original show that students will share with family and friends on the Friday afternoon.

Our Focus

Summer Theatre Camps provide students with the opportunity to explore theatre activities as a means to gain confidence and communication skills, both as a young person and as a performer. Each camp investigates key themes and techniques through high energy and interactive exercises.

Theatre camp instructors are highly experienced arts educators that focus on fostering skills in a positive environment. Instructors emphasize the process of exploring drama techniques, while nurturing a final performance that makes students proud of their accomplishments.

Whether a young person is looking for a fun way to spend a week or is interested in furthering a passion and interest for theatre, our Summer Theatre Camps will provide an unforgettable experience that will feed their excitement for live theatre and performing.
